The "Houston Cats" Podcast Project
A little bit about me.
I am known as "Jersey Joe". I am from New Jersey and yes I am a Bruce Springsteen fan. I run the fan site for my friend/musician Phil Ayoub www.philayoubfanclub.com You can check out his music at www.philayoubfanclub.com/dj.htm You can even download a few tracks at www.sonicbids.com/philayoub My real job is in health benefits but I have a good ear for music and talent. I spend between 2-3 hrs nightly helping Phil promote his great CD "Schoolbus Window Paper Heart" by contacting podcasters/radio stations etc. He has been on over 60 so far. I listen to a lot of podcasts and have become friends with several of the podcasters. I am constantly sending them artists that I find for their shows.
Brave New Frontiers Podcast
A gentleman by the name of Randall Cousins hosts this show. He was one of the first podcasters to play my friend Phil. I was coming across so many talented artists while doing my research for Phil I would send him all these suggestions. He asked me if I'd like to do a weekly segment on his podcast featuring this new talent. "Jersey Joe's Pick to Click" was born. The Brave New Frontiers podcast is all about great tunes and voices that need to be heard. The link to the show is here. Randall lives in Toronto, where he does the show. About 2 years ago, he started this show because he was asked to do it for an 8-station radio station network in New Zealand. He then added another network which is 5 stations. It gives him complete coverage for New Zealand. He later began to offer the show, as it is aired, as a podcast. There is only so much you can do in an hour radio music show, so he tries to pack it with cool indie stuff that folks should hear. His email is firstname.lastname@example.org
The idea of the "Houston Cats" project
One of the artists I came across was Lee Alexander. His "Out of Place" CD is one of the best I have heard all year (including major label releases). Lee turned me on to a slew of other Houston area artists that I should give a listen to. I mentioned to Randall (host of Brave New Frontiers podcast) that I was hearing all this incredible music from Houston and he suggested I take over his show one week and devote an entire hour showcasing these artists. I thought it was a great idea and plan to put it together for a December broadcast. I would need permission from each artist or their management to play a track. I would also need some mp3's if not available online emailed to me. Also let me know which website you want listeners to be directed to in the show notes (main site or a myspace site etc. etc.).My email is email@example.com
Podcasting and the Podsafe Music
Podcasting is certainly the wave of the future. It is estimated that there are millions of podcasters out there and the numbers may double by next year. It is a great way to get your music out there. The Podsafe Music Network is where you can upload your songs so podcasters have access to use for their shows. You maintain all rights to your music and the general public can hear your songs there but can not download them. That is something only registered podcasters can do for their shows.
Here are some other podcasters I keep in touch with on a regular basis (some several times a day). They all do great podcasts. I encourage you to check them out. They are really super people too. I can easily say they all have a heart as big as Texas. While I am gathering artists for the Brave New Frontiers podcast I will forward your music to them (assuming I have permission to play). I can't guarantee they will play you but they all have similar tastes in music as I do and they do a great job getting the music out there.

If you want to help
The artists that have joined this project have suggested other artists/friends I should check out. If you have any additional suggestions or know any of the bands on the "the wish list" please have them get in contact with me ASAP. Just send them to this page www.jerseyjoe.net and have them click on "The Houston Cats Project" link. Thanks for the help.
I can only fit in 12 artists so it will be on a first come, first served basis but I will forward any music sent to me on to my podcaster friends.
